Superman Returns for Xbox, PS2 and Xbox 360
Superman Returns: The Videogame (2006)

Videogame of the 2006 movie.
Superman Returns: The Videogame was published by EA Games and developed by EA Tiburon. The game was developed in conjunction with the Bryan Singer film released in 2006.
The player can explore 80 square kilometers of Metropolis on foot or by air as Superman. I was responsible for the first hour of gameplay which included the Meteor Storm and War World levels. Being Tiburon’s first action game in a long time, the tools used to produce level content was limited, involving XML files, Lua script and a custom built Finite State Machine editor (which used lua script files for defining behaviors of states and transitions). Due to the lack of level design and content tools, after the first hour the game resorted to a generic procedural encounter system where the player was required to defeat X number of opponents before Metropolis Health reached 0, which would ultimate proof to be the downfall of the product.
While working on Superman I learned a lot about programming and the text based scripting-language lua. Despite the ultimate failure of the product I was able learn from the many mistakes and take those lessons to grow my abilities as a designer.
