Speed Painting – The Early Years

by on Feb.23, 2009, under Art, Speedpainting

speed painting refers usually to rapidly produced concepts, I’ve never been extremely good at it, but have fun none-the-less. This form of sketching usually involves photoshop, my wacom tablet and 30 minutes to an hour of free time. I also do a few speed modeling sessions with Google Sketchup, which for whatever reason tend to come out better than the paintings.

High Pass filter Extreme!

by on Feb.23, 2009, under Art, Speedpainting

The first few speed paintings I did with photoshop weren’t “dreadfully” bad as I had expected, though I did make the mistake of using the High Pass Filter once I had finished it to make the edge of the lines sharp. This was ultimately the wrong thing to do as everyone knows what a bad highpass filter looks like (and if you don’t, you do now). Still for 30 minute painting/sketches I was proud of these when they were made back in 2001 or 2002. I was originally inspired to start speed painting when I started visiting art forums sites like , , and each of which have a thread specifically for speed painting, the sijun one inparticular has 1080 pages of speed paintings.
